Letter To Self

Did you know that Today is National Letter Writing Day?

And while I, like probably most in my generation, miss the days of handwritten letters, postage stamps, and endless trips to the mailbox, in these days of emails, and instant messages, I want to encourage you to stop for a minute and send a letter to self today.

While letters from your friends and relatives may not clutter the mailbox at the end of your drive-way today, you can write a letter to self

Research states that writing a letter to oneself can be a powerful exercise in self-reflection and personal growth. It provides an opportunity for one to take stock of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to express them in a safe and private space. This can ultimately lead to a better understanding of one’s own emotions and motivations as well as provide a valuable record of a person’s personal growth and development over time.

As a therapist, I know that writing a letter to one’s self can also be a therapeutic way to process difficult emotions and experiences and to gain insight into a person’s own thoughts and behaviors.

And so on this National Letter Writing Day, go ahead and take the time to pen a letter to yourself.

Let’s go… I’ll begin:
